I am honored to be a Camp Hebron staff alumnus. My experience serving there changed my life. At the age of 16, I was encouraged by my pastor to apply for a counselor-in-training position. What was supposed to last a brief three weeks turned into a full summer, weekends during the year, another summer, and so on and so forth.

I was discipled at camp, came of age there, and made lifelong friends. I met my wife at Camp Hebron. We were married in front of the chapel, and we spent our first year together on the full-time staff. Dawn and I were so shaped by our serving at camp that we encouraged both of our children to work at Christian camps, which they have now done for several years.

Not a single day goes by in my work as president at Cairn University when I
do not draw upon my experiences had and lessons and skills learned during the six summers and two years I spent on Peter’s Mountain. It was at camp that my work ethic was shaped, the call to serve Christ with my life was made clear, and my love for God’s Word was sparked. When I talk to people — particularly my students here at Cairn — about seeking life-changing experiences that will stretch them, strengthen them, and deepen their faith, I am always thinking of my years at Camp Hebron as a reference point. I thank God for the camp — for my time there and for the countless lives that have been touched and changed by the men and women who have served and continue to serve at this special place.
