Beiler CH Legacy Spans Nearly 5 Decades

Camp Hebron seems to be a place where many summer staffers meet their future spouse.

Nerida (Nellie) Villanueva & Levi Beiler are two of those people. It’s no coincidence of how God brings people together. Nellie grew up in the Bronx, NY and when she was a teenager had a summer job but her sisters were volunteering at Camp Hebron. Camp needed more volunteers for the summer so Nellie & her friends quit their jobs and headed to Camp. It was the summer of 1963 and they worked together in Breezewood Dining Hall

Levi Beiler also came to camp to volunteer for the summer. He was the jack of all trades filling in gaps with whatever the camp needed.

After a month of service, the camp held a banquet so Nellie went and Levi asked for the evening off and had dinner with Nellie. They ate together and then went back to the staff house where they watched a movie and before you know it they became good friends.

As summer wrapped up Nellie along with three other female summer staffers went home and Levi dropped them all off to their homes. Levi returned back to Camp Hebron and later moved to New York to be near Nellie. Eleven months later they were married. Levi ran a printing press at NYU.

They had their first child Lydia, and then had twins, John & Jimmy, then came Daniel and the youngest Esther who was born blind.

The Beiler’s have been coming to family camp for 48 years. Camp Hebron holds a dear place in theirs hearts and always will. The family has grown significantly and camp is enjoyed by their children (and their spouses),their grandchildren and sister, nieces and nephews. Nellie kept praying for her everyone in her family to come to camp and now they all do. She is glad that she is able to have this reunion every year, a time to bond and create lifelong memories. Hearing God’s words also makes Camp Hebron Family Camps, a vacation with a purpose .

When their children were young and they approached Peter Mountain they shouted Camp Hebron! Now their grandchildren echo the very same thing.
