Summer With A Purpose: Meet 'JC' Wenger

John Clair 'JC' Wenger, featured at the top of the ladder, is a third generation family camper at Camp Hebron. JC has been coming since he was four months old! Throughout his life, JC has attended cabin camp, drama camp, and spent six summers working on summer staff.

As a kid JC attended Family Camp, a week-long vacation designed for families to grow closer together, have fun and be refreshed. As he grew older he attended cabin camp on his own. JC's personal favorite was drama camp, which impacted his life greatly. Camp Hebron has always been a part of his life - so much so that JC spent the last six summers working at Camp. Camp Hebron is his home away from home!

Working at camp is a summer with a purpose and one of the only jobs where you can do silly goofy things and get paid to get eggs smashed on your head.
— JC

JC knew he wanted to work summers at camp when he turned 17. The first summer he participated in the Staff-In-Training program, which gave him the opportunity to work alongside counselors and assist with family camp. The three subsequent summers JC served as a camp counselor, and in 2014 & 2015 he worked as the Sylvan View Program Director (SVPD).

In his own words,

"I have to say the last two summers have been my favorite. Serving as the Program Director for the Family Camp program that I attended when I was a kid. It has been such a privilege. I have learned so many things like how to lead activities such as morning worship, guided hikes, archery, climbing wall, breakfast canoe trips and to give announcements, just to name a few. I have formed so many relationships, been able to listen to and help families in crisis, grow as a person, honor Christ and bless campers that come.

Working at camp is a summer with a purpose and one of the only jobs where you can do silly goofy things and get paid to get eggs smashed on your head."

JC is a recent graduate of HACC with a degree in Nursing, and plans to volunteer and visit camp as much as possible.

Thanks JC for being such a vital part of the Camp Hebron family!
