Psalm 31

Written by: Jake Gilmore

Have you ever felt abandoned, frustrated, or alone? Feeling like the entire world is against you? Sadly, in this world of social media, smart phones, and AI, our connectivity is at an all-time high while our connection is at an all-time low. When we experience these moments, somehow it seems like no one else has ever gone through this before or there’s no way out. In today’s passage, we are going to see how even King David, a man after Gods own heart, had to deal with similar feelings.

Read Psalm 31 and try to notice the thought progression David goes through.

What part of David’s writing stands out for you?

David shows us that if you experience these feelings, you’re not alone. We don’t have to just disregard our feelings, either; we can work through them. We can come before the Lord and have a real conversation with him. At the same time, we can remind ourselves of what he has done in our lives.

Giving space to experience these feelings while remembering that we are in God’s hands allows us to begin or continue healing. I hope that if you’re experiencing these feelings today you’ve seen that you’re not alone. God is really there for us even if we are having trouble finding him. Meditate on the closing prayer throughout your day and allow God to minister to you wherever you are at.

Closing prayer: Father, I ask that today, you would allow me to see your love. I ask that you bring to remembrance the good things you have done for me in the past.
