My Camp Story

Camp Hebron Story  By: Logan M. Kreider

I’ve grown up at camp, especially Camp Hebron, and it has always held a special place in my heart. My church has spent a summer weekend there for 50+ years. My Dad, who was working on full time staff, first met my Mom when she spent a summer as a counselor (John and Carolyn [Eberly] Kreider). And I have been blessed to say that I have numerous summers where my week at Camp Hebron was the highlight of my summer. I never had homesickness during those weeks away from home because I was having so much fun, and I felt the care and love that the staff shared with us as campers. I heard many speakers talk about the love of God, and experiencing that in God’s amazing creation has formed a deep passion for His creation to this day as I now have the opportunity to serve in outdoor ministry. The summer of 2014 was my first on staff as the Waterfront Director, and it included all the excitement of being a camper, except that it lasted for the whole summer! It also allowed me to give to youth what I valued so much as a camper. It challenged me to be a better leader and mature in my faith so I can share with others the overflowing love that our Heavenly Father has with His children, young and old. I am returning as Waterfront Director this summer, not because last summer was so much fun, but because I believe in the ministry of Christian camps as an incredible opportunity to relate to kids and show them Jesus Christ in a very real way. Jesus did a great job at using teachable moments in his ministry, and that is what camp is all about; using God’s creation and hands-on activities to show youth how they are a part of a very important story. I can’t wait to spend time out of my year again at Camp Hebron; sharing with another generation a faith that has grown from my summers as a camper to being able to lead others to the cross and open their eyes to the love of our perfect Father. I look forward to another great summer.
