Bouldering Camp -
New for 2012

June 17-22, 2012 Grades 9-12 $308/person

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is crazy fun, simple, and social.

Essentially, it is climbing on the little rocks (relatively speaking) with lots of spotters and think mattress-like pads for safety. Climbers go up only as high as they are willing to jump down so usually between 4 and 10 feet. 10 feet may sound like a lot but with 5-10 inches of padding below you its safe – just a head game. While this may not be climbing for those with a fear of heights, some do find it more comforting to know they are not going far off the ground and feel better about lots of spotters and pads than they do ropes (although a properly hung rope can safely hold thousands of pounds). This is also a very social form of climbing as often a small group of people will work together on a single rock and cheer each other on while waiting for their turn to climb and share ideas of how to move up the rock.

For this week of Camp we will travel to Cooper's Rocks in West Virginia where we'll set up tents at the State Park and then walk to the boulders each day to play. With over 400 different rocks to climb I'm sure it will be new and exciting each day. We will take one day during the week as a rest or rain day to go explore a local cave, get muddy, and have some variety. Evenings will be filled with traditional campsite fun of campfires, games, stories, creek stomps, worship, food, and more. If you'd like more information or clarification please don't hesitate to call or email Dan Cannaday.
